Last Wednesday, the Pennsylvania House voted to impeach Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner. This brings the self-described "progressive prosecutor" one step closer to being removed from office. If an upcoming trial does not go his way, he will join San Francisco DA Chesa Boudin, whom voters recalled in June, in being ushered out of office before his first term is complete. And while I do not have crystal ball, I might aver that, in the wake of Portland’s recent election showing a move toward the middle, DA Mike Schmidt might be hearing rumblings from the constituency.
Lots of Philadelphians have moved to the suburbs, if not further, over the recent years. Crime has been one of the major reasons for these moves. Shouldn't they too have a say in these questions? Asking whoever remains in the city is not much different from those "referenda" in the Crimea after everyone pro-Ukrainian got pushed out of the peninsula.
I am not a fan of Larry Krasner. I was born and raised in Philadelphia, and lived there until I was 28. Even though I haven't lived there in almost half a century, I still consider myself a Philadelphian.
Having said that, Krasner was reelected by the people of the city, and this impeachment is being conducted by state officials. They do have the legal right to do this, but I find it a case of a larger government interfering in local government by non residents of the city. I sympathize with them but I think that it is up to the residents of the city to do this, not the state, not people living far from Philadelphia making a political point. Boudin had to go, but the people of SF made that decision.
I’m not sure Krasner or any DA anywhere could keep up with the murders daily in Philly… it’s the first thing I hear every morning on the local news, 2 shot 4 shot, 6 shot, little kids killed an old man … Philly is a freaking mess … too many guns not enough morals or concern for life … not sure what the fuck …
Had to keep reminding myself, as I was reading this story about Philadelphia, which Mike Schmidt was being referenced :)

Right ?!
Philadelphia's not asking; at least you don't present any evidence that it is. Republicans in the PA Legislature are the ones impeaching Krasner.

Would love to hear a convo between you and Tana Geneva on this topic. Maybe on an episode of TFC?
Not a bad idea! If not for Fifth. I’ll get with her
