Hello Substack people! It’s Thursday evening, March 3, and I have been running around the city all day, getting necessary electronics and press credentials and a backpack the size of, oh, a five-pound bag of potatoes, in readiment (ed: not really a word?) for heading to Ukraine tomorrow, by way of Warsaw. Any tips, connections you want to send me - I will be reporting for Paloma Media, Reason and at least one other publication - please do! A little about what’s getting me there…
People have been very generous, and whatever I don’t spend on the trip/on the ground I will be sending to chef Jose Andres’s World Central Kitchen, with whom I have been in touch and hope to hook up with on the ground in Lviv. As a chef friend of mine said today, “Every chef should have a picture of Jose Andres in his kitchen,” as what he is accomplishing for those in crisis is truly laudable.
Yesterday Matt Welch and I jumped into the Paloma Media studio to chat with Megyn Kelly and that was very fun! Here are two clips:
Then Matt and I hopped on the Paloma Media YouTube to record an episode. After the obligatory fumbling with tech, we talked about the benefits/hazards of having a mini-Michael Moynihan in the house, some upcoming Paloma shenanigans, and our thoughts on Ukraine. Bonus: I tell a Polish joke my dad told me when I was maybe 11.
I am sending my love to you all. Keep an eye out here, and of course on Twitter - @nancyromm - where I be posting from Ukraine xx
Bless you Nancy. I’m anxious to hear about what you find. I look forward to reading what you’ve written.
